Yvonne Blake Receives Mujer de Cine Award at 2014 Gijón International Film Festival

Costume designer Yvonne Blake, an Oscar and four-time Goya winner and Patron of Honour of the Aula Film Foundation – Josep M. Queraltó Collection, picked up the 2014 Mujer de Cine (Women in Film) award during the opening ceremony of the Gijón International Film Festival (FICX) on 15 November at the Teatro Jovellanos. Since 2011, FICX together with Mujeres de Cine has granted this award to women in film who have been standouts of their generation, such as Blake, a recognised costume designer in Spanish cinema and abroad. She accepted the award, accompanied by her great friend the director Richard Lester, Spanish Film Academy vice-president Judith Colell, director Gonzalo Suárez and film editor Carmen Frías, who won the award the previous year and presented this one to Blake.

Some of Yvonne Blake’s work was on show, from 20-30 November, in an exhibition at the Centro Cultural Antiguo Instituto and in a number of shop windows in central Gijón, allowing the public to see some of the wonderful gowns worn by great screen stars in some of our most famous films.

The Gijón International Film Festival, directed by Nacho Carballo, is organized by the Ayuntamiento de Gijón through Divertia, and sponsored by the Gobierno del Principado de Asturias, the ICAA Film and Audiovisual Arts Institute under the Ministerio de Educación, Cultura y Deporte, the European Commission’s Media Programme and Liberbank-Cajastur.
